God's Definition of Beauty
I have not posted on my blog in a while, so I am thrilled I
finally had time to finish this one! I
wanted to take my time processing my thoughts for this post because of the
ideas it discusses. When I decided to do
a post on God’s definition of beauty, I instantly knew I would spend a great
amount of time on it. Personally, I find
the topic to be one that many people tend to ignore or simply forget. We all seem to become attached to this world
and the absurd beliefs it throws at us.
Clothes, hairstyles, athletic abilities, weight, GPA’s…all of these
things are how the world defines us. Our
“worth” is determined by irrational standards the world tries to force on us,
and, to God’s dismay, we seem to base ourselves on these standards
repeatedly. But the thing is, when we
fall for the lie the world tells us about true beauty, ironically it does not
make us see ourselves in a different light.
We accomplish something in an attempt to feel beautiful and
automatically tell ourselves we still are not good enough. We still feel empty, we still feel
incomplete, and we still do not feel beautiful.
Now, here
is the part where you can cue me getting tingly and excited as I type this post
(it really happened). While we turn to
what the world has to offer to make us feel beautiful, there is a wonderful God
who loves us the way He created us. I
believe to call oneself unattractive is to insult a grand masterpiece designed
and loved by God. We all have times
where our hair can not be tamed, our outfit looks as if we blindly dressed
ourselves, and our breath smells more like a garbage bin than a fresh
mint. However, it is these things that
seem so unappealing that make us magnificent creations of The Lord. Each one proves we are individuals blessed
with an opportunity from God to fully experience the greatness of life.
I
absolutely love God’s definition of beauty because it looks strictly at the
heart. Humbleness, kindness, positivity,
and honesty are just a few attributes (refer to the Bible for many, many more examples)
I believe God views as beautiful. To
stay positive in tough situations or to show kindness to the cruelest of people
exemplifies such beauty; I honestly can not stress that enough. Furthermore, when we choose to see the good
in others, we allow God’s light to shine through us. I feel by recognizing the inspiring
characteristics of other individuals, we can encourage them to continue to grow
in promising directions. Letting God’s
light shine through your actions, beliefs, and thoughts illustrates beauty to
its fullest extent.
